The Lizard is one of my most favourite places in Cornwall. It’s also two other things – the most southerly point on the UK mainland, and home to Cornish Fancies. This fabulous company is run by Vicky and I couldn’t wait to feature them on Dotty Vintage Weddings.
This is not just another cake company. Cornish Fancies are unique, supremely talented and their products are simply mouth-watering. They have a huge selection of tasty treats and it was tricky to pick out just a few samples to showcase on the blog.
There are a delicious range of flavours available to order from Cornish Fancies, including Madagascan Vanilla, Chocolate, Lemon, Carrot Cake, Banana, Banoffee and Baileys… Hold on a minute, I’ll be right back (gets in car, drives to the Lizard, purchases said cupcakes and returns with a cup of tea to boot – I wish!)… Take a look here for cupcake goodies.
Yes my lovelies, you read that correctly – cupcake bouquets! These are just fabulous – I can’t even begin to imagine the engineering that must go on to assemble one but they are quirky, individual and inspiring. I particularly love the romantic bouquet – I couldn’t think of a better Valentines, or even Engagement present. You can find more information on the cupcake bouquets here on the website.
Cornish Fancies also offer bespoke wedding cake designs, and what’s brilliant is that you also order wedding favours, cupcakes, brownie bites and cake pops to match! I picked out this example, with white chocolate brownie bites and gorgeous floral detail. If you’re looking for wedding cake inspiration, take a look on the website for more info and prices.
Sweetie Tables & Treat Towers!
This particular Treat Tower is a real show stopper! This was designed for a nautical themed Cornish Wedding and I wouldn’t know where to start. I’d probably just take one of everything!
The detail on every single piece is immaculate and Cornish Fancies not only deliver on taste, but also on aesthetics, which for your wedding photographs is undeniably important. You can also order a traditional sweetie table from Cornish Fancies too, with a whole range of confectionery available to choose from.
I’m a huge fan of edible wedding favours, purely because you can guarantee that your guests will appreciate them, even if they don’t last much past the reception. I was taken aback when I saw this beautiful image of a vintage birdcage, with Lemon Butterfly cookies – this is a wedding fayre table display at its very best.
Vintage Afternoon Tea
A pop up service wherever it suits you – have Afternoon Tea on the go including traditional cakes, finger sandwiches, scones with cream & jam, all served on lovely vintage crockery.
Gifts & Accessories
Cornish Fancies also stock a range of accessories to compliment your home baking efforts including cake tins, gift tags, cupcake stands, and lots more. The full range can be found here.
So you must be thinking that Vicky is a professionally trained pâtissière.
Well, you’d be mistaken. She actually baked some cakes for a friend to cheer her up on daughter’s first day at school. This led to a local market stall. Then a website. Then she started attending wedding fayres, and the rest is history. With a life long love of baking, Vicky tells me that she just adores running a business dedicated to all things cake, and says “I don’t think there’s a better job in the world!” – And I’d be inclined to agree.
I would urge you to take a look at the Cornish Fancies website, and visit them on Twitter and Facebook for more examples of their work. They also have their own blog too with lots of news and exciting updates – you can find it here.
