After my post on Monday about Alternative Wedding Shoes, I thought I’d look at some beautiful short wedding dresses today, both genuine, and vintage inspired. I think that short wedding dresses are often playful and can be a great way of finishing off a vintage wedding theme. I’ve also included some inspirational extras that will compliment the looks perfectly.
The first dress comes from a designer based in Phoenix, called Katie Walker. Her Etsy Shop for her brand ‘Katie Jean’ is full of vintage inspired dresses, with a bridal collection. The dress below is a lace shift which is sold with a slip underneath. The dress is made to order and is also available in other colours and fabrics. The bow and hair accessory really complete this vintage inspired look. This dress retails for a little over £100.00, making this an absolute bargain for your special day.
This look makes me think of a quaint summer wedding, and what better setting than my perfect Cornish wedding venue? – Polhawn Fort
From a bargain find, to a more pricey option, the next dress is approximately £640.00 and is a Hitherto original for BHLDN – “Seraph’s Whim Shift” The scalloped tulle and daring hemline would make this a perfect option for the dancing bride, and is evocative of the flapper era. Flappers were considered scandolous at the time, so if you want to shake things up, wear with an extravagant headpiece and a sleek bob to complete this wedding look.
I love this Bridal Shower Invitation from The Original Pear with a flapper theme – for a 20’s wedding, think straight hemlines, beads & pearls, feathers and all out glamour!
One more for the 1920’s theme – ‘Dido’ by Jenny Packham. Flirty, fun, feathers – fabulous!!
Another Etsy seller this time – ‘Lynn’s Rags’ This was a one off genuine vintage gown that was reconstructed and shortened. The fabric was tulle which added high volume to the skirt, giving the dress a 1950’s style. For a 1950’s wedding, keep things bold, beautiful and most of all, be brave! Don’t be scared to try vibrant colours, I love the pink/black combo for a real rockabilly wedding!

There are undoubtedly a whole host of wedding themes that you could choose, and many eras to take inspiration from. I say embrace your theme, go all out – you only get to do this once! (hopefully…)
That’s all for tonight 🙂
